Objectives and contents of the project "notebook category"

Objectives / ContentOrganization / flowMeetingsParent's GuideFAQ

So far, all students of our school will receive as part of the media studies teaching from grades 5 to 7 basic skills in dealing with the media. In addition, we offer interested students from grade 8 for the elective computer science. In addition, all departments use our 2 computer labs and computer rooms located in the tray. The planned introduction of laptop classes in this context represents a logical step to increase the individual use of modern media, because in our information society, information and media literacy skills are among the most important key. Traditional forms and methods of teaching, such as satisfying the writing of scientific papers, lectures, presentations or group work alone no longer sufficient to meet the challenges of working life and the information society.
In the notebook category, which exist in some other schools already have the following issues highlighted as benefits for the above-mentioned issues:

  • The use of laptops promotes constructive knowledge organization.
  • Project would be many opportunities to organize.
  • Shifting of tasks is "delocalised structure, eg for at home possible.
  • Higher individuality and identification of students with learning material increased.
  • Students become experts in certain areas.
  • Students are more motivated to work with notebooks.
  • Due to the personal possession and the assumption of responsibility for the notebook, students develop a high degree of autonomy.
  • All subjects can benefit from the use of the device.
  • Notebooks to support traditional forms of learning in a meaningful way.
  • The use of mobile technology offers many possibilities for differentiation.

Our long term goal is to implement using the work equipment "Notebook" learning scenarios that convey to our students in addition to the specialized content increased information technology key skills. It is particularly important that the notebook will be used only where it makes sense enriches the teaching and create a unique value for students and teachers.

What we have specially designed as a laptop classes?

  • Each participating student is owner of his own, always-on laptops.
  • During the school pupils have access to the school network and the Internet.
  • In class we used the computer as an ordinary working tool. The use of new media will learn specific field and should therefore be commonplace. The proportion of computer use is dependent on subject and theme.
  • In the case of the selection of software costs and legal reasons, where possible is based on unlicensed software.
  • The cost of the notebook, including insurance shall be borne by the parents.
  • All students have the same notebook. Decide on the selection of the device parents and teachers together.

The technical infrastructure of our school already allows in principle the use of computers in every room, as each room has a network connection, including internet access. The entire school network is protected by a hardware firewall (IPCop) that works simultaneously as a content filter with respect to minors. In the spring of 2010, an additional wireless network (WLAN) installed and integrated.
The classrooms, which are designed for notebook-classes, which are all currently equipped with digital projectors (beamers). In addition, it will be at central locations and provide portable printer scanner stations that can be used if required. For each project, students participating in a safe deposit box is available.
For laptops, we plan-on model-as a way to divide the disk into 2 separate areas (2 partitions). The school is being used in school. Secured by username and password, students can then use the network. This area we are one of us with required software pre-installed and protected against tampering and viruses. The school also runs an educational interface that can be accessed through the administratively by those who teach the students laptops to the Internet, for example, temporarily suspend, disable USB, inputting data, etc. This concept is already working now with the stationary PCs in the computer labs . The Privatpartition can be used individually at home and our being subject to any restrictions, thus specifically intended to reward the private financing of equipment.

The financing of notebooks, including an insurance company must be made by the parents. To be determined depending on the notebook model and its equipment is estimated to cost about 15 € to 30 € per month for a maturity of 3 years. For this period must therefore be interpreted also insurance, maintenance and service. As an alternative to a possible protection for the private household insurance, a group insurance for all notebooks would be considered. As options for maintenance and service as would be either a rapid on-site repair or 2-3 reserve equipment in the school in case of a notebook repair imaginable.

The plan is the beginning of the project from school year 2010/2011 in grade 7 and / or 8 for a period of 3 years. For this period must therefore maintenance and service as well as insurance and financing to be designed.

This information should enable you to decide whether you participate in your child, starting next school year on notebooks provide class project or not. Tell us this in writing please, even in case of refusal "on the enclosed form with the parent letter. Enter the confirmation please in a sealed envelope after the Christmas holidays with your child for the class teacher.

Depending on the number of positive feedback, we could then begin in January with an initial planning. It will then decide to also favors what grade level is, how many classes are planned and the extent of any necessary reallocation of classes. The result we will publish here on the homepage and set a date for a meeting for all interested parents in February. It was not until this date we need a binding commitment to participate in your child.
